Seventh Annual Cookie Bake-Off

I really can’t believe this is our SEVENTH year doing our cookie bake-off. This has become one of my favorite Christmas traditions. Its fun and challenging to try a recipe that we may not otherwise take on, and we get loads of cookies to bring to Christmas gatherings.

Overall, this year we thought all the cookies were delicious there wasn’t a dud in the bunch! Read on to see who won…

Britta’s Cookies: Italian Ricotta Cookies with Almond Icing

If you follow Carli and I on Instagram you know our all time favorite cookie is the lemon ricotta cookie from Nordstrom’s eBar. We did find that recipe, but I thought lemon was a bit too summery so I decided to make a classic ricotta cookie. These were so moist and fluffy! They weren’t very sweet so they paired well with the icing. I went with almond since it’s my favorite but you could easily make a classic vanilla icing and it would be equally as delicious! These cookies earned me second place, and I will absolutely be making them again!

Carli’s Cookies: Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

One of our favorite cookies in LA is the BOLT Rocky Road so Carli was inspired to do a dark chocolate cookie. She doubled down and made dark chocolate cookies with dark chocolate chips. These were delicious but extremely rich- you can only have 1-2 bites before needing a sip of water. We were saying next time they might be better with either peanut butter chips, or a lighter chocolate (maybe semi sweet). Carli placed third this year!

Tommy’s Cookies: Almond Croissant Cookies

Tommy really challenged himself with these cookies. They require you to make your almond filling ahead of time, so that once your dough is ready you can add the chilled filling before popping them into the oven. As an almond lover I was expecting these to be very almond forward, but they were actually quite buttery and have the best texture.  Tommy did a great job this year, and we all awarded him first place for his hard work in the kitchen!

Jame’s Cookies: Peanut Butter M&M Cookies

I actually don’t know if James followed an actual recipe this year, but he made his favorite peanut butter cookies with peanut butter M&Ms. They had a classic peanut butter taste, which was great, but the addition of the M&Ms made them a little too sweet for me (personally). Overall they were good but 1) some cookies were underbaked and 2) they had a slight sandy texture like his first year. However, they definitely tasted better the next day!

Please share your favorite cookie recipe down below!

xx, Britta
