There are some things that you should splurge on (lipstick, heels, electronics, etc), but there are more things you should save on. I am seriously so stingy with my money. I try to spend zero dollars on a day to day basis and cringe whenever I fill up my gas tank. If you need some tips on easy ways to save money read this post.
There are stores like Target that sell really cute things at great prices. Everything in their dollar section screams “take me home!” But people forget about T.J. Maxx. At this point Home Goods has become the go-to for millennials trying to decorate their their first “grown up” apartment. But it’s sister T.J. Maxx also has some great deals on more than home decor! Before you buy any of the following items PROMISE ME you’ll check T.J. Maxx first. I can almost guarantee you’ll find a great deal!

Handbags– T.J. Maxx has a HUGE selection of designer bags, for half the cost! They also have really unique bags that you wouldn’t find in most department stores.
Notebooks/Planners– They always seem to have a large selection of planners, notebooks, notepads, clipboards, etc. They are usually $5 and up. I seriously NEVER leave T.J. Maxx without getting a new notepad!
Pots & Pans– When you move into a new place you tend to invest a lot of money in the kitchen. Glassware, Flatware, Dishes, and all the things in between add up REALLY FAST. When we moved into our last place we went straight to T.J. Maxx to get things like a strainer, apple cutter, and pots and pans. They have really good quality pans that are sold individually, which is great for people like us that don’t cook that often and therefore don’t need a 20 piece set!
Wall Art/Picture Frames– We’ve already decided that a gallery wall is a MUST in our next place. I don’t know how some people find art and frames that fit a certain theme flawlessly, but I would guess that they start at T.J. Maxx. TJ’s has a huge selection of canvas’ that can be as low as $10! I have a few pieces in my room at the moment, all with gold accents.
Watches– Designer watches are something we all love and dream about. I remember when I bought my first Michael Kors watch while on vacation in NYC. I never regretted that purchase, but I sure wish I could have found a better deal! T.J. Maxx has a great selection of watches from designers like Michael Kors, at a much happier price. They’re also usually unique models that you don’t see everyday, which is nice because it’s always good to feel like you own something special.
Nail Polish– Essie is our go-to nail polish brand. They have the prettiest hues and the formula is chip resistant. But at $8.50/bottle Essie polish is not something we buy frequently. I purchased a really pretty pink shade this past summer that I wore it all the time. About a week later I was at T.J. Maxx and saw that exact same Essie shade for only $3.50!!! I couldn’t believe it.
Coffee– An average bag of coffee from the grocery store costs about $6. With that comes average taste (sorry Folgers, I love ya). T.J. Maxx has MORE options than a grocery store when it comes to bags of coffee. Trust me. You’ll find so many different brands and flavors for about $3-5 a bag! I’ve tried so many different kinds and have never been disappointed
Makeup Storage– If you’re like me you have so much makeup you just don’t know what to do with it all. I consider myself a very organized person but when it comes to organizing my makeup I have just about had it, until I went to T.J. Maxx. They sell a TON of those clear, acrylic makeup holders in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some of the pieces can be as low as $6! I purchased a few different pieces and now my makeup lives in a happy home. You can also use bathroom storage (see below) to store your brushes and makeup!
Sheets/Bedding– I don’t know about you all but it’s really hard for me to find bedding that I like, and that matches my bedroom decor. So when I find something that works I usually stick with it for awhile. Therefore you want it to be good quality. T.J. Maxx has so many adorable bed sets! They truly have something for everyone. I always buy my sheets at T.J. Maxx due to the high thread count and low price. I usually opt for cream or white sheets so they’re really easy to find on any trip to T.J. Maxx!
Hair Tools/Products– Nice hair products and tools can be very expensive, and since we all want to protect our precious hair we fork over the big bucks for these products. The shelves at T.J. Maxx are covered with salon brand hair products and tools. Sometimes if you’re lucky you can even find those really large bottles of shampoo that will last you the entire year!
Candles– Growing up we were spoiled with Yankee Candles galore. Home Sweet Home and Macintosh were familiar scents around our house. When we left home at 18 we were pretty devastated that we couldn’t afford those $25 candles, until we discovered that T.J. Maxx carries Yankee Candles, as well as so many other amazing candle brands. We now only buy our candles there. You can’t beat the price tag!
