Welcome to the first Sweet Eats post of 2018! Which is sad since it’s already April. Honestly, we’ve been so busy with work and side projects that we haven’t had the time to shoot content that requires a field trip, like this series. Which is such a shame since this IS our favorite series on the blog. We know a lot of you probably don’t find these posts helpful since they’re geared towards LA locals, but we hope that they inspire you to try new bakeries in your area!
We had been wanting to try Mr.Holmes Bakehouse since they first hit the scene a couple years ago. If you don’t know, they are home of the “cruffin” or croissant muffin. We aim to try all hybrid desserts, and the cruffin was at the top of our list. Mr.Holmes opened up in Larchmont not too long ago but we wanted to wait for the hype to die down before we paid them a visit. We hate any and all lines and avoid them at all costs.
Anyways, we couldn’t have picked a better day to visit because the place was completely empty so we could take our time deciding which goodies we wanted, and photograph the beautiful space san strangers. The bakery itself is small but so well lit and modern. The space is crisp white with some greenery and pops of color. Seriously in love with the interior design on this place!
They had plenty of fresh options for us to choose from, it was so hard to narrow it down to four (self-control, am I right?). Our first choice was the Cruffin of the day which happened to be a caramel white chocolate flavor (score!). We were pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t too sweet, which is something we steer clear of when it comes to desserts. The croissant itself was light and buttery with layers of crispy goodness. The filling with light with a hint of caramel. It almost tasted like homemade whipped cream. So good!
We also got the lemon meringue croissant. The presentation on these pastries is out of this world. It’s hard to find desserts that both look and taste amazing, at an affordable price. The croissant was also incredible. The lemon filling tasted just like our grandmas old-fashioned lemon meringue pie.
The vegan chocolate chip cookie was chewy, dense, and rich which is how we lie our cookies. Vegan desserts are so good! The churro croissant was another hit. I’m telling you, this place can do no wrong.
And can we talk about this to-go box? Have you seen anything so trendy/classy/cute/perfect in your life? It only makes sense that these top-notch pastries would live inside a gorgeous box.
Overall we adored Mr. Holmes Bakehouse! We can’t wait to go back to try their other baked goods!
xx, Britta

hahaha well if the treats weren’t amazing themselves, once I saw the “dad jokes” printed on the box, I was sold. Will definitely be checking this location out when I’m next in LA this summer!
