If you are familiar with Lisa Eldridge you know she is a queen and one of the most talented makeup artists of our time. We’ve always enjoyed Lisa’s videos and how her techniques are actually useful in everyday makeup routines. So when she first released her Velvet Lipsticks a few years ago we knew we had to try them! She started with a collection of gorgeous reds and we yearned for the day when she would release a nude lipstick. If you’re new here, our nude lipstick preference is something with a slightly brown and yellow undertone that leans neutral. We do not like pinky nudes, like the masses.
Anyway, last year she released Velvet Fawn which is a gorgeous beige nude. The thing we love about her lipstick shades is how unique they are. Every lipstick she releases is something really special which makes it worth the cost! Not to mention these lipsticks are packaged in a gorgeous magnetic gold aluminum component, with her logo debossed on the cap. Absolutely luxe!
I know you’ve been waiting for me to touch on the formula, so here we go! This is our all-time favorite matte lipstick formula. They go on smooth like velvet and fill in the lip lines, without making the lips look aged. I think the best part about this formula is how buildable they are. Each swipe applies a thin layer of product which I believe helps with the longevity of the product and the formula becomes one with the lips.
The two shades we picked up from this year’s launch were Velvet Affair and Velvet Dragon. I should mention that Lisa released these lipsticks every fall and once they sell out they’re gone until the next year!
Velvet Affair is described as an earthy, soft caramel brown with easy-going, cool-girl vibes. I’ve been wanting a deeper nude shade in this range and THIS IS IT. I see myself wearing this daily this winter.
Velvet Dragon is described as a muted, burnt soft, rusty red with warm yellow undertones. This is the prettiest orangy-red we’ve ever owned, and we have a lot of them! Definitely a statement shade!
