If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you know we love a good DIY coaster. We’ve already made burlap coasters and these clay coasters and now we move onto another medium, leather.
In our recent trip to Hobby Lobby (aka the craft kingdom), Britta and I got lost in the leather aisle. Leather is so beautiful and it just gets prettier with age, to say I love it would be an understatement. I saw these leather rounds and immediately thought of a coaster DIY. I’ve been really into the paint stroke pattern lately and thought it would look great on these rounds in a metallic finish.
I would estimate that about 75% of our craft projects involve metallic paint, specifically Martha Stewert’s Metallic Craft Paint. I used a new shade for this project and it’s now my favorite metallic paint of all time.
These coasters are SUPER easy to make and affordable. I think they turned out so pretty and I’m thinking about making more for Christmas gifts this year (it’s never too early to think about Christmas, right?!).
What you’ll need:
- Martha Stewert Metallic Acrylic Craft Paint in Rose Chrome (our new favorite shade!)
- A 3 or 4-pack of leather rounds
- One 1/2″ paint brush (the one I used was $1 at Michaels)
Instructions:
This is seriously super easy, Dab the top 3rd of your brush in a little bit of paint (not too much, you can always add) and paint strokes on one side of the coaster. That’s it!
You can play around with it, the paint stroke should be varying lengths to get this effect.
