Snickerdoodle Caramel Apples

Snickerdoodle Caramel Apples

Britta and I’s caramel apple obsession began at a very young age. In Wisconsin, apple picking is a big deal. We went every single year without fail. Apple orchards usually have lots of apple treats for you to munch on before or after picking. Though we love cider and apple butter, we always looked forward to those fresh, perfect caramel apples.

This year as we were planning our apple picking trip, we realized we had NEVER made caramel apples for the blog. How did we make it three years without making or really even mentioning our beloved caramel apples on the blog?! This revelation didn’t sit well with us and we immediately began brainstorming up ideas.

For our first (but certainly not last) caramel apple recipe, we decided to go with snickerdoodle caramel apples! Genius, I know. I can’t take credit, it was all Britta’s idea. The cinnamon sugar goodness of a snickerdoodle cookie pairs perfectly with the rich caramel flavor. We will definitely be making these again!

Ingredients:

  • 4 Granny Smith Apples

Directions:

First, melt the caramel…

If using Caramel Apple Wraps: Place one wrap on an apple and stretch it all the way to the bottom. Stick a wooden stick into the top. Place the apple on parchment paper, on a small plate, and microwave for 15 seconds on 50% heat. Set aside.

If using Caramels: Stick wooden sticks in each apple and set aside. Spray a microwave safe bowl with cooking spray. Place 2 cups of (unwrapped) caramels in the bowl. Microwave at 50% heat for 30 seconds, stir with a silicone spatula and repeat for two minutes. Dip each apple into the caramel until it’s completely covered. Set on parchment paper to dry.

Next, melt the chocolate…

Place two cups of white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in twenty-second intervals on 50% heat. Stir after each interval. We heated ours for a total of 1 minute and 20 seconds. Immediately add the cinnamon and stir.

Now…

Dip each apple into the chocolate mixture. We went about a third of the way up. Then immediately dip the apples into the crushed cookies. Set on parchment paper and place in the fridge to set for at least 30 min.
