Essential oil diffusers have really gained popularity recently, and for good reason. Carli and I often find ourselves stressed and overwhelmed and essential oils really help calm us. I don’t remember the last day I DIDN’T use my diffuser. I usually turn it on at night to wind down after a long work day.

Since diffusers aren’t portable we decided to make some calming balm to use during the day that we could easily fit into our bags. We used Nature’s Truth Essential Oils in this post. They make a large variety of oils and they are the most inexpensive oils I’ve found! They were 2/$10 at Walgreens (they can be found in the vitamin aisle at Walgreens) which even beats Amazon prices!

You can use Nature’s Truth Oils in a plethora of ways! Soaps, candles, in the shower, and of course in a diffuser. I personally love that they have so many blends so I don’t have to mix them up myself.

Anyways, back to the balm. Since you are never supposed to put essential oils directly on your skin we came up with a balm so that it soothes and moisturizes the skin as you calm your senses. Here is how we did it!

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Add the coconut oil, beeswax, & almond oil to a small dish.
  2. Microwave for one minute, stir. Then microwave for one more minute.
  3. Immediately add the drops of essential oil to the mixture, stir, and pour into a tin.
  4. Let cool until it’s solid.

During the day when we’re feeling a little overwhelmed, we’ll pop some of this onto our wrists and on our temples and we really find immediate relief. The pleasant citrus scent of the calming blend is so nice with plenty of floral notes which is perfect for summer. The mental clarity blend is very bold and helps us to concentrate on one task at a time (which is really hard for busy bees like us!).

We’re thinking of getting the cinnamon oil for Fall to use in another craft project. What’s your favorite essential oil blend?

This is really awesome!! Just yesterday I found this store who offered several “testers”, now you tell me not to apply directly on your skin. I left there smelling like grapefruit, citrus something. Soon I could taste it!!

This is a great idea! I have never used these natural oils before so I am keen to try them.
I really enjoy your blog, as I believe it is very important to encourage DIY cosmetics rather than store bought products that are filled with ingredients that sound like they are from another planet! Before I was introduced to DIY products i used many store bought products that felt like they were working only for a few days. I realised that so many of these products had a facade and misleading wording that suggested they were “natural” when really they had very little concentrates of organic ingredients.

That’s why I started a campaign to take action and encourage more people to start creating simple DIY cosmetic products. Most people are aware of how bad the chemicals are in many store products but do not know simple substitutes for this. That’s why I love your blog, it’s accessible, and everyone can achieve these DIY examples. If you want to check out my campaign you can find me on Pure Over Parabens fb, twitter (following link) as well as Instagram and our wordpress. It would be great to connect and share DIY thoughts and tips with you!

    Thanks! JP x
