Essence Cosmetics is a relatively new makeup company that produces on-trend makeup products at affordable prices. You guys already know that Carli and I LOVE affordable makeup. A lot of drugstore brands are raising their prices each and every year, so it’s nice to find a brand that is still considered affordable and yet high quality.
Essence recently launched at Target. OH HALLELUJAH. Just another reason to go to Target and spend 20x the budgeted amount.
Essence products from lips to eyes to brows, and everything in between. They have a HUGE assortment of nail polish shades as well. Since they’re inexpensive we like to purchase shades we wouldn’t normally try to test the waters!
We picked up a few face products to create a glowy face makeup tutorial for you all. Highlighter seems to be gaining popularity daily. Which makes sense because who doesn’t want to look like a woodland fairy?
The products we purchased at Target were the Essence Matte Bronzer in ‘Brunettes’, Essence Blush in Pinky Flow, & the Essence Cream to Powder Highlighter in ‘Look on the Bright Side’ (SO GOOD YOU GUYS).
See the tutorial in these step-by-step photos:
Make sure to put your foundation down and do your eye makeup. We recommend going with a gold eye, to keep with the glow theme of the overall look.
Use the bronzer and an angled brush to contour the face. Hollow out the cheek bones and apply the powder around the edges of the forehead. Follow up with the sides of the nose, so that the lightest part is the middle.
Apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks using a blush brush.
Now for the highlighter! This highlighter applies like a cream so we recommend using your fingers for the best results. Apply the highlighter to the tops of you cheekbones, in a line going up and outwards. Also apply a little to the inner corners of your eye, and don’t forget your cupid’s bow!
That’s it! We love how bright and friendly this look is. It’s suitable for daytime and will be perfect for Summer!

02/24/2016 at 2:32 pmI am 67 and love eyeshadow. What would you suggest for me? I have been told women my age should not wear shadow.

02/24/2016 at 7:51 pmHi there! You don’t necessarily need eyeshadow. You could always focus on lashes, and use a nice lengthening mascara. If you do want to wear an eyeshadow stick with neutral shades. One of our all time favorites is MAC Woodwinked. Hope this helps! 🙂

02/29/2016 at 9:14 amYou can definitely wear makeup if you have acne! You may want to skip the highlighter though, as it tends to accentuate your skin.
