We’re back with another cake donut recipe! You may have seen the original cake donuts that we made for Valentine’s Day. Since then we’ve tried to get more creative with our recipes. I’m slightly embarrassed to say that peanut butter & jelly sandwiches are one of our favorite foods. I know they’re technically for children but they are just so good! Peanut butter and jelly is a delicious combo and we can’t get enough. So these Peanut Butter & Jelly Cake Donuts were inevitably going to show up on this blog.
We prefer our PB&J heavy on the PB which is why we went with crushed Nutter Butters on the top of gooey thick peanut butter icing. This is definitely the best icing we’ve made!
As always we’ll go through the donut recipe first and then discuss the glaze. You can, of course, alter this recipe to fit your needs. You could always go with a jelly glaze if peanut butter isn’t your thing. But that would be weird, right?
Ingredients:Â
- One box strawberry cake mix
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 2 donut pans
- Crushed Nutter Butters
- Donut cutter
Directions:Â
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease your donut pan
Mix together cake mix, egg, oil & water in a large bowl
Fill a plastic bag with batter, cut off one of the corners and fill each well about three-quarters way full with donut batter
Bake for 14 minutes
Let donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Place donuts (in pans) in the fridge for 1o more minutes to cool completely. Remove from pans.
We overfilled some of our wells (easy to do) so the donut holes weren’t so perfect. To fix this, we used this donut cutter we had and just re-cut the holes. It worked perfectly!
Glaze Ingredients:Â
- 1 Tablespoon butter
- 1.5 cups powdered sugar
- 4 Tablespoons milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 Tablespoons Peanut Butteer
Directions:Â
Melt butter & peanut butter together
Whisk in powdered sugar and milk – you can always add more milk if you want your glaze to be thinner
Dip the donut halfway into the glaze, then turn the donut sideways to allow extra glaze to run off
Add crushed Nutter Butters immediately and let it firm up on a cooling rack
What kind of donuts do you want to see next?!
