DIY Colored Mason Jar Vase

I am the holiday queen. Any holiday. Every holiday. I can’t get enough. Britta is also like me in this way. We just love an excuse to celebrate. We try to get each other and our close friends something for every holiday just because it’s fun!

Last Easter I received so much candy from my Mother and my roommates that I went into a sugar coma for about 2 days. Really though, it was too much (and for me to say I ate too much sugar is very rare). So this past Easter I didn’t want to go to Rite Aid and pick up bags of cheap candy and give it to my roommates. I wanted to make them something.

After looking on Pinterest for awhile I discovered DIY Glass Centerpieces from a blog titled Oh So Lovely. The blog post is all how about to turn old glass vases into beautiful colored glass vases using any color paint you desire. I loved this idea but I decided to use mason jars instead of old vases for my roommates Easter gifts.

What you will need:

• A mason jar
• Enamel paint made especially for glass (Americana is one brand you could use)
• Rubber gloves

Directions:

1. Wash and dry the jar to make sure there is no dirt or residue on the surface
2. Put on the rubber gloves
3. Remove lid from jar
4. Drop some paint inside the jar and twirl it around until the inside of the jar is completely coated with paint
5. Let dry completely (you can turn the jar upside down to speed up the drying process)

NOTES:

• I bought the mason jars and the enamel paint form Michaels craft store. I’m sure you could find both at any craft store.
• I used two 2-ounce bottles of paint for every one medium mason jar
• Do not use a brush to help spread the paint, it will only add streaks to the jar and it won’t look even
• Allow up to 3 days of drying time. Mine took about 3 days to dry but the blog post I based this on said it took her about 2
• There should be instructions on the paint bottle to bake the jars in the oven once they are dry to make them dishwasher safe
