How to Wear Stripes For Summer

I know most people are afraid to wear stripes because they tend to make you look wider, but I don’t think that’s always the case! I find that thick stripes on a top are a nice alternative to a pattern. I’m personally really picky when it comes to patterns so I generally gravitate towards basics. However, sometimes I want a fun top to wear in the summer, and that is when I go on the hunt for a good stripe (or floral pattern, but that is really hard to find).

I found this cute striped top at Forever 21 and instantly fell in love. I never shop there in the store because it’s overwhelming. But they have some fun pieces online and you can always return to the store. I follow Amy Serrano’s tips when it comes to shopping at places like Forever 21. Generally, you want to look for fabrics that are a synthetic blend, or 100% cotton. Anything that’s polyester or looks see-through is probably really poorly made. This top is described as a sweater knit and I would have to agree, but it’s definitely not as thick as a chunky knit. I truly love the color combination on this top, it reminds me of the 70s!

This top is cropped on the model but I have a short torso so I was able to tuck it into my high-waisted jeans no problem. I also want to mention that this top looks great with all denim: black, medium wash, light wash, etc. Which is such a win in my book! I went with black for this outfit to help the shoes pop!
