I don’t know about you, but I have always felt like polka dots are very juvenile. I see a polka dot print, think it’s cute, but it instantly takes me back to my childhood and the many polka dot patterns that adorned my 7-year-old self. Recently, I’ve been wanting to bring that beloved pattern back into my life but didn’t know how. I didn’t want to look like my childhood self, so I needed to figure out how to make polka dots more adult.Tip one would be to look for polka dot patterns that are more refined (aka – the actual dots themselves are on the smaller side). I find that very very small polka dots and even the medium-sized dots you see on my blouse here look grown up yet still fun.
My second tip would be to wear polka dots up top. Pairing this pattern with a more traditional, grown-up cut like a blouse or a button up structured shirt make the pattern feel more grown up. Adding a polka dot bag to your look would be super cute too, though I haven’t found many!If you’ve been following our blog for a while, then you probably know what this last time is. Try to buy polka dot patterns in a black and white color scheme. You know we never wear color, so this is natural for us. But again will make the pattern feel more adult and less youthful. However, if you love color, then go for it! Wear whatever you feel best in.
