I’m just going to say it. These seasonal favorite lipstick posts are my absolute favorite. It’s so secret how much Carli and I love makeup and lipstick is really at the center of that love. Lipstick is the first makeup product we really made an effort to buy (specifically MAC lipsticks) back when we were 18, and it propelled the full blow addiction you see today.
With such an extensive collection there are some lipsticks that often get overlooked, but this series has opened our eyes and made us dig deep to find the perfect shades for the upcoming season. Some of these are obvious choices but we also have to sort through and remember which shades we wore constantly the year before.
You guys already know how much we love fall, and I’m guessing you feel the same. Warm toned makeup is our jam, and so you’ll see a lot of deep browns and terracottas in this post. We know that these lipsticks look similar but there are a few different formulas and definitely some price variations.
So let’s take a look, shall we…
Bite Beauty Cremini
Cremini is described as ‘milk chocolate’ but it looks more like a deep mustard on us. We’ve said this before but Bite Beauty lipsticks are our favorites. The formula is so creamy and hydrating but also long lasting. We also think it’s amazing that Bite Beauty is food grade, which is why their products are on the pricier end. But this lipstick is actually on sale right now so get it before it’s gone! Cremini is definitely an ‘everyday’ type of nude for us.
OFRA Americano
Americano is described as a ‘dark sienna’ and that is spot on. We prefer sienna because it leans warm and has red undertones, which looks much better on our skin than pink-toned lipsticks. Some people are scared of dark lipsticks but this shade is so wearable because it’s still in the nude family. And aside from the shade, we think OFRA liquid lipsticks are so under rated. They are so long lasting and matte without being too drying. Ofra is now sold at Ulta too making it super accessible!
Maybelline Nude Nuance
If you watch our YouTube videos you know how much we love Maybelline lipsticks. They are the best at the drugstore, but even more than that, they are comparable to much more expensive lipsticks. And can we talk about the range? There are 20 shades alone in this specific creamy matte collection. I purchased Nude Nuance on Amazon for like $5 on a whim and it’s one of my go-to shades. I know that some people love the whole “concealer lips” look but Carli and I cannot wear pale nudes, we much prefer deep shades. I would describe this shade as a milk chocolate, as it definitely has red and orange undertones. The creamy matte texture is very comfortable and easy to layer!
Em Cosmetics Vintage Rosewood
You guys know we had to include some sort of mauve in this roundup. No matter what the season, mauve is on our lips in some form. This fall we’re all about Vintage Rosewood, an earthy mauve. The formula is air whipped and incredibly comfortable. These Infinite Lip Clouds aren’t necessarily transferred proof but they wear off evenly, so if you don’t reapply they will resemble a lip stain. We like this formula for darker shades because even as the day goes on it will still be flattering. While Vintage Rosewood isn’t an everyday shade for us, we would definitely wear this out to dinner or for date night!
Jeffree Star Leo
Usually, we don’t like to purchase lipsticks without seeing reviews or swatches but that wasn’t the case with Leo. The minute Jeffree released this shade we clicked “add to cart.” Leo is described as a honey brown, but we think it closely resembles a deep terra cotta. This liquid lipsticks formula is very thin so it doesn’t accentuate fine lines and it dries down relatively comfortable. Jeffree Star definitely makes one of the best formulas out there! However, for some reason, this specific shade smells terrible. It does wear off after a couple of minutes so if you can get past the initial stench, you’re golden.
Smashbox Out Loud
There are definitely plenty of amazing liquid lipstick formulas out there (see above), but Smashbox takes the cake for us. When these first came out we thought ‘$24.00?! LOL SMASHBOX,’ but then we tried them and were blown away. The applicator is pointed at the end making it easy to outline your lips. The formula is thin and whipped so it glides right on and dries down to a gorgeous matte finish. After that initial purchase, we knew we had to try more shades and that’s when we got Out Loud, a deep orange. Orange lipstick might seem scary to most but it almost reads as a nude. This shade just screams fall and we’ll be wearing it all season!
We have to know, what are your go-to fall lipsticks?!
xx, Britta
