Urban Decay On The Run Eyeshadow Palettes Review + Swatches

Urban Decay On The Run Eyeshadow Palettes Review + Swatches

When the original Urban Decay Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette was released we were immediately excited about it, which rarely happens these days for us (with makeup). This palette is filled with gorgeous neutral shades but also has pops of color, leaving you with everything you would need to create just about any makeup look. The formula on this palette is also the best Urban Decay has to offer, in our opinion. The mattes blend our beautifully, even the colored ones and the metallics are uber creamy and long lasting. Although the palette is gorgeous and well-made our only complaint was the size. It’s too large to travel with and the vast color selection can be overwhelming. So when Urban Decay released their Born to Run MINI palettes, we were so anxious to try them! We’ve said this before but our ideal palettes have 9 or fewer shadows. This makes for more monotone looks that you don’t have to put too much thought into.

There are three palettes in the collection: Detour, Bailout, and Shortcut. They all have very unique color stories and a mix of finishes. We’ll show you each below along with swatches and give you our thoughts!

Detour Palette

I’m just going to cut to the chase here. The Detour Palette is our favorite of the three. It’s filled with gorgeous everyday browns and bronzes and has two absolutely unique blue shades. Blue was the standout eyeshadow trend in 2018 and we’re glad it’s carrying over into the new year slightly. The shade “DETOUR” is one that I like to use on an everyday basis just thrown in the crease. It’s so creamy and has subtle mustard undertones which I love. The shade ‘SWITCHBACK’ looks stunning as in inner corner highlight!

Shortcut Palette

The Shortcut Palette is our second favorite of the three. We always forget how much we love berry tones until we wear them on the eye. For some reason, they seem to suit green eyes! Actually, if you don’t want to invest in the Naked Cherry Palette this would be a great alternative! There is a great mix of pinks and berries but you also have a couple of neutral shades to make the palette more wearable. They also included one of their most popular shadows, SIN, which can double as a highlight. We love to wear the shade ‘ZONE’ diffused all over the lid. It’s so pretty!

Bailout Palette

At first glance, you may think the Bailout Palette is purple focused, but it’s actually the most neutral out of the three, with the exception of one purple shadow (VICE). This palette is really pretty if you like creams and browns. The only reason we’re not 100% in love with it is that a few of the shadows are really similar. We don’t think this one has as much variety as the other two. In short, it’s just not as exciting as Shortcut and Bailout.

Overall we were really impressed with these little palettes and have been reaching for them more often than not! I’m only deducting a point because the formula includes talc and I’m allergic so I can’t wear these shadows for more than a few hours at a time without my lids getting irritated. Hope you enjoyed this review!
