As soon as we planned our trip to Nashville we added Five Daughters Bakery to our list of must-visit spots. you guys know we basically live our lives either eating baked goods, talking about baked goods, or thinking about baked goods. It’s not exactly a healthy hobby but we all have our vices.
Anyways, if you’ve never heard of Five Daughters Bakery, they’re known for their croissant style “100 layer” donuts, which can be referred to as “cronuts.” We’ve never met a cronut we haven’t loved so we knew we had to try their versions. I ordered, “The Purist” which is a regular croissant donut with a vanilla bean glaze. I always try to get a simple donut when I try new places because I think it’s a good indicator of quality and a safe bet. The Purist did not let me down. The layers were apparent and flaky while still being buttery and moist. I will say that these donuts are rich, so steer clear if butter isn’t your thing.
Carli ordered the Speculoos 100 layer donut which is described as “dusted with a speculoos spiced powdered sugar, topped with a spiced speculoos glaze and decorated with a homemade speculoos cookie.” Carli said it was absolutely delicious, but again, rich.
Of course, we went back and decided to try one of the vegan donuts because we tend to love them. Since we loved the Speculoos so much we landed on the Speculoos vegan. The dough was unlike any other vegan donut we’ve ever had. It was good but not nearly as dense and moist as expected. The glaze on top was delicious and overall it was a good choice.
Five Daughters Bakery itself is very trendy and light and bright. It reminded us a lot of Mr.Holmes Bakehouse actually. Because of the atmosphere and the extensive options that cater to everyone (they also have paleo donuts!), we highly recommend stopping by here if you’re in Nashville! xx, Britta
