In the past year, we’ve grown fond of cream eyeshadows. They’re long lasting, pigmented, and so easy to work with. Our favorite way to use them is to apply directly to the lid and blend out with a synthetic crease brush. Our favorite brush being the Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush. It came in a holiday set two years ago and it’s such a staple for us!
Anyways, you can imagine how excited we were when Laura Mercier sent us their entire range of Caviar Stick Eye Colours! We’ve tried a sample of these once and loved it! We actually had no idea they made matte shades, and matte eyeshadow is our favorite.
Mattes– The matte shades are super creamy and blend out really easily on the lid. Because of this, you can really diffuse the dark shades to make them more wearable, which is nice. These aren’t as long lasting on the lid as other eyeshadow sticks we’ve tried but they also feel comfortable on the lid, ie. not heavy or thick. Our favorite shades from the group are Au Naturel, Caramel, and Cobblestone. Vanilla Kiss, Tuxedo, and Blossom we’re duds in our opinion. They didn’t blend very well and went on patchy.
Shimmers– We noticed that some of the shimmer shades were more metallic and some of them contained glitter, making them more of an eyeshadow topper (like Orchid). The metallic shades are nice. They blend well and work well on top of the matte shades. Our favorite shimmer shades are Copper, Moonlight, Sand Glow, and Amethyst. Some of the shades were a bit patchy, like Grey Pearl, Plum, and Smoke. But in general darker shades are harder to formulate so it’s understandable.
Overall, there are definitely some formula inconsistencies within the range so you’ll definitely want to purchase in store so you can swatch and test it out. But you can’t go wrong with any of our favorite shades that we mentioned above. These caviar sticks are so easy to throw all over the lid and the color range is really gorgeous!
