For those of you who have been long-time readers of Twinspiration, you know we’re from the great state of Wisconsin and now reside in Los Angeles. We loved growing up in Wisconsin, mainly for the people and the cheese. We are serious cheese lovers, always have been and always will be. Getting to partner up with Kaukauna® Cheese for this post was a dream come true. Kaukauna is an actually a small town in Wisconsin only about 40 minutes from where we grew up. Kaukauna® Cheese has always been our favorite spreadable cheese (try it once and you’ll be hooked).

Although we could eat this cheese all year round (which we do), we love putting it out for guests during the holidays. Their cheese comes in many forms: cups, logs and balls (all 100% cheddar in a variety of flavors). The cups are our favorite for the easy scoop-ability but for this cheese platter, we decided to stick with the cheese logs and balls since they are the most aesthetically pleasing.

We bought our Kaukauna® cheese from Ralphs! They have a large selection. As you can see Kaukauna® cheese also comes in spreadable cups!

Arranging this cheese platter is super simple to do and it will really impress your guests!

Ingredients:

  • Kaukauna® Port Wine Cheese Ball (Port Wine is our favorite flavor!)
  • Kaukauna® Double Sharp Cheese Log
  • Nuts (we used pecans)
  • Dried Fruit (we used cranberries, perfect for the holiday season)
  • Cracker assortment

Directions:

Step 1: Place your cheese on the platter first since it’s the main focal point of the board. We put our Kaukauna® Port Wine Cheese Ball in a little dish to help the cheese stick in one spot and prevent a messy cheese platter. We put the Kaukauna® Double Sharp Cheese Log next to it so both cheeses are in the middle of the board for easy access. When entertaining, you want people to be able to reach the cheese from both sides of the platter.

When choosing your cheeses, make sure to pick a variety of sharp and light/white cheeses. Different textures are also a plus!

Step 2: Choose your crackers and place them on the board around the cheese. Again, texture variation is important when choosing your crackers. We picked a thin wheat cracker, a thick, crunchy cracker and crispy baguette pieces. We’ve found that soft cheeses like the Kaukauna® cheeses go great with crunchy crackers.

Step 3: Round out your plate with secondary items such as nuts & dried fruit (or fresh fruit). We decided to go with seasonal selections: pecans and dried cranberries. Cranberries add a beautiful color to the cheese plate and they taste so good with every cheese! You could also add red grapes for a similar color effect. Pecans are our favorite nuts, even though they’re pricey, they’re so worth it. Almonds are a cheaper alternative that goes very well with a variety of cheeses as well.
