Essence Melted Chrome Eyeshadow Review + Swatches

In 2020 I’ve definitely focused more on single shadows that give a ‘one and done’ easy eye look. While most dates I pop a neutral brown into the crease, sometimes I want a statement shadow on the lid. I’ve been a fan of the ColourPop Super Shock Shadows for years but they dry out fairly quickly so I was hoping these Essence Melted Chrome Eyeshadows would give a similar effect for a similar price point!

I picked up two out of the six shades: 07 Warm Bronze and 02 Ironic. They looked like the most wearable shades from the range. I have to say, I find the undertones in this range to be a bit off. Ironic ended up being very icy on the eye, even though it looks like dark champagne online. I hope they expand and include shades with more flattering undertones, similar to what Hourglass has done with their Scattered Light shadows.

Speaking of, I found this formula to be incredibly similar to the Hourglass shadows, at about 1/4th of the price! They almost feel like a cream to the touch but dry down to a thin layer of shimmery pigment. These Melted Chrome shadows had more glitter in them than I anticipated but they really pack a punch! I do recommend using a glitter glue with these. I always use the NYX glitter glue with any shimmer shadow. It really helps to lock in the glitter and keep the pigmentation vibrant all day. I did find these shadows easy to work with and the edges blended out well! Going back to the undertones, I found both of these shades to have lots of silver glitters, which isn’t my favorite but stunning none the less!

I wanted to speak to the packaging quickly. I LOVE how compact these are and that they have the clear front so you can see the various shades you have. Such a simple thing but it goes a long way in my book.

Overall I think these are definitely a great alternative to the ColourPop SSS or the Hourglass Scattered Light if you’re looking for a glitter shadow that makes an impact.
