We knew we wanted to make some Christmas ornaments this year, but after perusing Pinterest for hours we found ourselves feeling discouraged. There is a plethora of brilliant, beautiful ornaments out there in the blogosphere, and we wanted our ornaments to be equally as creative.
We thought long and hard about what makes a good Christmas tree ornament.
Does it sparkle? Is it antique and timeless? Is it dainty and pretty? Is it covered in gemstones? Is it a personalized do-dad? Does it hold sentimental value? Etc.
We agreed that ornaments shaped like desserts take the cake (pun intended). Donuts are still the Beyonce of desserts these days, so we decided to make gilded donut ornaments (shocking right?). Gold, gold everywhere!
Supplies:
- Donut Cookie Cutter
- Oven Baked White Clay
- Leafing Gold Paint Pen
- White Paint Pen
- Gold Paint
- White Paint
- Foam Brush
- Thin Gold Ribbon
- Pen or device for creating a hole
Directions:
- Roll out clay.
- Cut four “donuts” from the clay and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Use a pen to make a hole at the top of each ornament (for hanging purposes).
- Follow baking instructions listed on the clay package. Let cool.
- Paint two of donuts gold and two of the donuts white (even through they’re already white, the paint gives them a glossy finish).
- Use your gold leaf pen and outline the edge of the white donuts, and the inner circle. Let dry.
- Use your white paint pen and outline the edge of the gold donuts, and the inner circle. Let dry.
- Use your gold leaf pen to draw sprinkles on the front of the white donuts. Basically draw small dashes in different directions.

- Cut four pieces of gold ribbon and put them through the holes at the top of the ornaments
- Hang your ornaments on the tree and enjoy! 🙂
Did you make any ornaments this year? Share a link so we can check them out! 🙂
