We meant to do this post last summer when we were traveling a lot but it slipped our mind. Recently we both went on trips for work and realized that we did have quite a few essentials we bring with us on any trip, near or far. If you’re looking to be a more organized traveler, then just keep reading!
Everlane Commuter Backpack – Out of everything on this list, this is our favorite travel companion. Carli actually purchased it first and I used it on a trip and immediately ordered it. From the outside, it may look like a simple backpack but trust, it’s so much more. The phone pocket on the front is a true game changer. I like to keep both my phone and wallet in there for easy access in airports. I also love that there are two large compartments so you can separate things out. For instance, I like to keep all tech needs in the back pocket and snacks in the front pocket. I also want to mention that I can easily fit my purse in the large pocket which is helpful so you don’t have to carry two bags.
Stainless Steel Water Bottle – This is our favorite water bottle for a few reasons but the main one being that it’s spill proof. This is essential for traveling! Also, just a reminder to bring an empty water bottle to the airport and fill it up when you get there!
Makeup-Removing Towels – I’m not a fan of face wipes. More often than not they irritate my face and make it feel dry. My method of choice to remove my makeup is a cleansing balm or oil but both can get messy while traveling. These towels are so soft and remove ALL my makeup with just water. The best part is that you can throw them in the washing machine and use them over and over again.
Garment Steamer – This is a staple for me both at home and while traveling. I don’t think I’ve ever used an iron because why would you when steamers exist? This one is so easy to use. You fill it up with water to the fill line, turn it on, wait for it to heat up and steam away. I feel like it works really well and travels nicely since it’s so compact.
Portable Charger – I don’t think I really need to explain this. It holds a charge, looks nice and it’s super affordable!
trtl Pillow – This one is all Carli but I do see the appeal. Instead of using a standard neck pillow the trtl kind of props your head up so you’re not straining your neck. There’s a learning curve involved but if you struggle with getting comfortable on airplanes, try out the trtl!
Cord Organizers – I’m one of the few that hasn’t switched over to air pods. I know they’re worth the investment but they’re not a need for me right now. That being said, I can’t stand when my earbuds get tangled in my bag. I found these cord organizers on Amazon and they keep all my cords wound up and prevent tangling.
Beis Makeup Case – We guarantee this is Beis’s best selling product, and for good reason. The mirror you guys. I don’t know about you but we always forget to bring a makeup mirror while traveling and end up using the tiny one that comes in an eyeshadow palette. I love that this bag has a slim mirror in it that you can set up to do your makeup. I also love that it has a space to keep your makeup brushes separated.
Laundry Bag – Having a laundry bag for dirty clothes is essential in my opinion. It’s also so easy to toss your clothes in the washing machine right when you get home.
Sponge Case – This beauty sponge case is so great for keeping your makeup tools organized. I love that it’s a mesh case so that air can get in and out and bacteria doesn’t grow on your sponge from too much moisture being trapped. You can clip it to your makeup bag or even your backpack for easy access.
Mini Flat Iron – I should preface this one by saying that I don’t ever straighten my hair. I only use a flat iron on my roots to tame them. So for me, this mini size works well because it does the trick and I don’t need to pack my bulky flat iron.
Silicone Loofah – We’ve talked about this on our YouTube channel a few times but it’s such a game changer. Traditional loofahs are a breeding ground for bacteria. This silicone version harbors fewer bacteria and it’s easy to clean. I have one at home but also like to keep one in my travel bag.
Transparent Toiletry Bag – It appears that they don’t make the exact bag I have anymore but this one is also a good option. I find that transparent toiletry bags are good for two reasons 1) You can see what you have which will make you more organized and 2) It’s so easy to clean. I have two of these, one for skincare and the other for hair care. I feel like they help me stay organized and they’re on the smaller end so I never overpack! I only bring travel sized products that I know I’ll use.
Velvet Jewelry Bags – I have been on the hunt on a good way to travel with jewelry for years. I feel like the standard jewelry cases are great for organization but so bulky. They take up way too much precious space. So I went on the hunt for small jewelry bags. I found these at Michaels and they work perfectly. I put rings in one and each necklace in its own, so they don’t get tangled. I feel like they protect the jewelry but don’t take up too much space.
Packing Cubes– Packing cubes are a must have for any traveler. I don’t think they help save on space but I love that I can organize my clothes into different grouping. It makes unpacking (and then re-packing) so much easier.
