Summer makeup is definitely our favorite of all the seasons. It tends to be light, Dewey, and natural looking which is our cup of tea. The older we get the more we steer clear of matte products and reach towards those that are glowy and creamy. Matte makeup tends to cling to dry patches and sink into fine lines, while it’s glowy counterparts flatter the skin.
This year we’ve found some products that we think are perfect for the summer months. We titled this post “Best Summer Glow Products” and by glow, we really mean bright and bronze. We’ll walk you through how we use each product below!
This has been one our best finds at Sephora! It’s only $19 for two ounces and a little goes a long way. It’s a gel-like consistency and we like to mix this in with our primer/moisturizer for some added color. This is perfect for no makeup days, as it gives you an instant glow and makes your skin look sunkissed. This bronzer does lean red but we find it looks very natural on our neutral skin tone.
We have tried a lot of glowing lotions, and this is one of our favorites (plus it’s affordable!). It makes any foundation you put on top of it more skin-like and dewey. As stated above we like to mix this glotion with the Clinique Bronzer for some added bronze. Again, this combination is perfect for no-makeup days OR as a base for foundation. We use both almost every day! You can see the two mixed in the photo above.
We never really reach for loose highlighters but when ColourPop launched their Luster Dusts we knew we had to try! This is a striking, metallic highlight that does have some glitter to it. Because it’s so intense we prefer to use Strobe Globe on the body. Since it’s a loose pigment it blends into the skin seamlessly and gives the collarbone and shoulders the prettiest natural glow!
This has become our favorite cream highlighter! It’s a true champagne so it’s perfect for light skin tones. We love cream products because they look so natural and glossy on the skin. You also get so much product in here so it will last you awhile! The way we like to apply this is with our finger. So you swirl it around a little to warm up the product and then dab it on the high points of the cheek!
This is my all time favorite bronzer. It’s a baked formula so the powder itself is very finely milled and buildable. Carli and I love buildable face powders because they never look muddy and almost always look natural. The powder contains Ultrafine reflective pearls that give the most gorgeous glow to the skin without being glittery or metallic. This bronzer i I apply the Bare Minerals bronzer with a stippling brush and it blends out to perfection. I do have light skin but I purchased the shade “Medium” because I preferred the undertones, and it works fine on my skin tone. I also want to mention that I’ve had this bronzer for about a year now and I just hit pan on it, even though I use it every day!
This bronzer is very similar to the Bare Minerals one. They’re both baked and very buildable for natural looking color. Carli has the shade “Luminous Bronze Light” and it’s suited for our light, neutral skin tone. I would say this bronzer is very natural looking and can even be worn on no-makeup days if you just want a bronze glow. And can we talk about the packaging? Hourglass always nails it with their packaging!
ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in ‘Snakebite’
Don’t be mad but we just realized while writing this post that this shade is no longer available! Regardless we’ll still share our thoughts. The reason we love this shadow is that it looks fairly dark in the pan (and even when swatched) but on the lid, it’s much sheerer and natural looking. It almost gives the lid that glossy effect that’s trendy right now. The Super Shock Shadows do dry out fairly quickly for us, but it’s good that they’re only $5 to replace! According to Temptalia, Amaze is a good dupe for Snakebite, so try that one out if you’re into this shadow!
This is a new find for us, but as we said before we’ve been really unto cream products lately. Creme eyeshadows last so long on the lid and they’re so simple to sweep on the lid and be on your way. This shade, Caramel, is a true bronze and creates an instant smokey eye. It’s not too opaque or too sheer but just looks like a gorgeous wash of color. We’ve tried a lot of creme shadows and this is our favorite from the drugstore, hands down!
We hope you found something from this list that suits you for summer!
