Best Primers for Dry Skin

Best Primers for Dry Skin | Twinspiration

If you watch our YouTube videos then you are well aware of our dry skin. We complain about it way too much, but it seems to keep getting drier as we get older. Thankfully in the summer, it turns into combination skin and our skin has some sort of natural glow. But in the winter months, we are dry as the Sahara, as is Los Angeles as a whole. We’ve tried so many different makeup primers and it’s honestly really hard to find primers that hydrate the skin and help your makeup last longer. We highly recommend all the primers listed below, and there’s something for any budget!

Best Primers for Dry Skin | Twinspiration

1 | Pixi Rose Flash Balm– This has been our favorite primer as of late. It smells like roses (not a synthetic floral scent, but actual roses) and is insanely moisturizing. It’s definitely on the thicker side and actually feels like a mask/moisturizer hybrid. But because it’s so thick a little goes a long way. It won’t help the longevity of your makeup but it will make for a nice smooth canvas.

2 | The Ordinary Rose Hip Seed Oil– We’ve been using Rose Hip Seed Oil in our skincare routine for about a year now and dare I say it’s my all-time favorite skincare product? Rose Hip Seed Oil is known for it’s brightening and hydrating properties. It’s actually really good for acne scarring! We love using it as a primer because it has a slight yellow hue that helps even out the skin and creates a nice, hydrated base. We use this most often with demi-matte foundations!

3 | Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer– This primer has a cult following and for good reason. It’s pore-filling without being too silicone-like, which is important when you have dry skin as silicone based primers can cling to dry patches. It truly gives your skin the prettiest veil! A good drugstore dupe is the NYX Angel Veil Primer.

4 | Fresh Instant Glow Luminzer– Now that the weather is warmer we’ve actually been using this as a cream highlighter over foundation, but it also works great as a base. It just gives the skin a nice dewy, fresh finish.

5 | Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer– This is exactly, as they say, a primer and moisturizer in one. While we wouldn’t use this primer in place of a moisturizer it does hydrate the skin and seems to help prolong foundation wear!

6 | First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothing Priming Moisturizer– This is very similar to the primerizer but it’s tinted so it helps even out the skin before applying foundation. This looks great on it’s own as well, and it smells so delicious!

7 | Erborian Glow Creme– Erborian is a Korean brand that focuses on skincare, which is one of the reasons we love this creme, because of it’s active ingredients (Licorice Extract, Niacinamide, etc). It gives the skin a pearlescent glow that looks beautiful under foundation. It also helps your makeup last all day.

8| The Ordinary High-Spredibility Fluid Primer– This primer has a silicone base so you only need a little bit to cover your whole face. I like this because it doesn’t let foundation or powder cling to dry patches. It truly creates a smooth base, and it’s super inexpensive.

9 | Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer– This primer is made with coconut water which is why it’s ultra-hydrating and definitely worth the investment if you have dry skin!

10 | NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer– This product is marketing as a primer but it’s really more of a serum. It’s actually similar to the rose hip seed oil but has a thinner consistency and sinks into the skin a little fast. This would be really great for someone with combo skin that wants to look dewey without looking greasy.

Have you tried any of these primers?!

xx, Britta

I love this post so much! Us dry girls sure do have to be picky when it comes to primers!

As a dry skinned gal in southern California, I find Macs Natural Radiance Prep and Prime Primer amazing (it’s yellow to help skin tone and it’s a lotion type primer. I also love Tatchas Silk Canvas.. I also add Rosehip oil under my eyes esp if I’m using shape tape and occasionally to foundations if I’m really dry
